Flying The Hercules Like A Pro

Written By:

I’ve noticed a bit of comments online of people having a hard time flying RC helicopters. Whether the helicopter is big or small, inexpensive or high-end, or whether they themselves are old or young, some people just have a hard time with flying helicopters.

To be honest, it took me a while to learn to fly one. I tried to do everything at once and ended up crashing again and again. It wasn’t until I slowed down and read some material online that I was able to learn to fly really well.

The Unbreakable Hercules RC Helicopter is a seriously awesome helicopter. Anyone with a little patience can be flying it around their house or outdoors like a pro. Check out the video below about a guy at a hobby store that flies it with grace and elegance.

redrockethobby

Do you want to fly your Hercules or other helicopter with this much control? It’s simple, just practice. But the most important thing to practice is the hover. Start indoors and slowly increase the throttle until it’s hovering a few inches above the ground. Keep practicing until it becomes natural and easy to hover. Then turn, without moving forward. Turn left and right while hovering. Once you get this down you’ve mastered the basics of flight.

Just keep taking it easy and you’ll be flying like a pro in no time. It may not sound as fun, but imagine flying your RC helicopter with precision through the house or office, or showing off to your friends as you fly it outside. Because if you take it slow and follow these simple steps, you’ll be flying like that in no time. The other option is to fly it haphazardly and crash it frequently and hope you can figure it out as you’re zooming through the air with little to no control.

Whatever helicopter you’re looking for, the Unbreakable Series is a great place to start. Check them out on HobbyTron.com.

Even A Child Can Fly It…Sort Of…

Written By:

In this video a very young girl tries to fly the Hercules Unbreakable Helicopter. It’s not really meant for an audience this young as their motor skills aren’t quite up to par for a helicopter of this calibre.

The father flies it for a bit and he isn’t much better, but it shows how much fun this toy is for a family of all ages. The filming isn’t very good until the father takes over for a minute.

Just watch the first 3 minutes to see /hear the Hercules in action. The rest of the video is unrelated.

Angry Birds vs The Hercules Unbreakable Helicopter

Written By:

Angry Birds is still just as popular as ever with the younger generation and That Crazy Family proves it here with their fun video depicting a pig that stole the birds’ egg and is trying to get away in an Unbreakable Hercules.

The Hercules RC Helicopter is the hottest helicopter of the year and has taken the RC world by storm. It’s unbreakable up to 200 lbs and has a gyro in it that helps make flying it much easier than many other RC helicopters. It’s big enough to fly outside and comes in at a generous price point that anyone can afford. The Hercules comes in a smaller Nano IR version, and those both come in glow-in-the-dark versions as well. Check out HobbyTron.com and pick up a helicopter from the the Unbreakable RC Helicopter Series today!

The Toys of Summer: World Tech Toys Joker 2CH IR RC Helicopter – “Fly So Serious?”

I’ll have to admit, I let out a hearty chuckle when I opened the box from HobbyTron and saw that World Tech Toys DC Comics Licensed World Tech Toys Joker 2 Channel Infrared RC Helicopter inside leering at me suspiciously. I wasn’t laughing AT the Joker-shaped chopper, mind you… but the fact that it was him inside that box and not Batman or Superman as I’d expected.

I also laughed because it being the Joker meant I was probably lucky to be alive after opening that box. As not a whiff of Smilex Gas poured out of the box and I was still breathing, I cracked the package open, took everything out and in less than two minutes (most of which was spent trying to recall where I put the bulk package of batteries I bought a few weeks ago), I was about ready to fly…

The copter comes fully assembled in the box, so all you need to do is pop six AA batteries into that wireless controller, remove the charging cable from its slot and connect it to the figure. The 7.5″ figure has a 6″ rotor span and that built in LiPo battery didn’t take long to charge. I suppose I could have flown it right away, but I decided to let it sit around for about an hour so I could fly it indoors and outside on a single charge and check out the HobbyTron site while I was waiting just in case I ran into anyone asking where I’d gotten it from. I’d not used a RC controller in a while, but this thing was pretty easy to get into the air and zipping around the room after a few minutes of practice. Once I was confident enough to pull of some near flawless hovering and landings, it was time to take a trip into the daylight and see how this bad guy could do in the open sky.

I found a nearly people-free spot not too far from the home office that used to be a basketball court and there was more than enough room around to not hit any of the trees or other plants surrounding the area. As there was very little wind, I got the Joker into the air with no trouble and about a minute or so of flight time, I hear someone coming from my left ask “Is that a drone?” I laughed and turned to see one of the maintenance guys looking up with his hand above his eyebrows because of the sunlight. I flew the Joker down a bit so it was closer and he laughed. “Oh, it’s the Joker! Cool!” before asking if I got it in the area. I told him it was a HobbyTron RC and there were also Batman and Superman versions available. He whipped out his phone and typed in the website, then thanked me for showing him the chopper as he turned and went on his way with a cheery “Thanks, man – gotta get back to work!” followed by “I’m gonna get one of those for my son’s birthday!” yelled from about 20 feet away. Huh? Who knew the Joker would make people happy?

I’d say my work was done in getting the word out, but I wanted to see the reaction from one more person. I landed the Joker and sat down for a few minutes to have some water and as soon as I got up and got that figure in the air, I heard a bark and some scampering towards my general direction. Ruh-Roh! It wasn’t Scooby-Doo, but a nice-looking and really energetic pit bull that seemed to have a Joker fetish. As it ran around me, jumped up on my leg once and hopping away, started barking up at the copter, I got a tiny bit worried that I’d have to see about landing Mr. Joker on someone’s windowsill until whomever owned the dog showed up. Fortunately, that was about five seconds later, as the guy who owned the dog called it and after running around me a few more times and barking, it dashed back to its owner.

The guy apologized and looked up along with his seemingly smiling dog, asking me what kind of helicopter it was. I told him the same thing I told the maintenance guy, flying the chopper lower, but not so low that his still excited pooch (who he’d thankfully leased, but was still barking up at the sky) could snatch it out of the air with a mighty leap. The guy nodded and smiling, asked if there was a Batman figure and how much it cost and as I’d cleverly checked out the website earlier, I was able to let him know they were on sale for $34.95, had a 90-day warranty and he should probably check out some of the other stuff there if he was into RC stuff, slot cars and a ton of other cool goodies they have on their site. The guy laughed and said I sounded as if I worked for the company, which made me laugh as well. I told him I write about games and such, handed him a card and he went on his merry way, with his dog still a bit hyper.

By this point, I decided to jet back indoors myself before some kid with a slingshot showed up and wanted to try and shoot the Joker out of the sky. Of course, just as I land the thing, some kid and his mom see, the kid runs up and wants to play with it. Eek. as I’m thinking to myself “Hey, kid! Didn’t your mom teach you not to run up to strange guys!” his mom zips up, apologized to me and then said a variation of that to her son. *Whew!* Anyway, the funnier thing about the flight was I was so thrilled to check this thing out that I’d left my darn camera at home (oops), or I’d have taken a few photos of the thing in action. I can safely sat that it works quite well, is lightweight and doesn’t take a lot of effort to fly at all.

Sure, it’s a bit goofy to see at first, but that laugh should turn into a nice solid grin once you’re finding people who see it wanting to take it for a spin. Of course, that’s when you tell them to go get their own, right?

Ghostbusters Helicopters are Coming!

ghostbusters-helicopters

We were going to post this anyway today but on the news of the death of Harold Ramis, it seems appropriate. At the Toy Fair we got a sneak peak of this cool new Ghostbuster toy that is coming out next Fall from World Tech Toys.

It’s Ghostbuster mini r/c helicopters! What you see in the photo is still in the prototype stages- the final paint scheme is not even approved yet (you can see Slimer’s colors in the smaller model). There will be one chopper for each of the Ghostbusters (coincidentally the only figure they had on display was Ramis’ character Egon), as well as Slimer, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, and even the Ecto-1 car! Each figure has a little helicopter blade atop their head and is remote controlled. RIP Harold Ramis.

New York Toy Fair: Ghostbusters Radio Controlled Helicopters

World Tech Toys, makers of radio controlled cars, trucks, helicopters, and licensed figures were at New York Toy Fair to let us all know what they’re planning when it comes to Ghostbusters. I didn’t know much about World Tech Toys before seeing the above (Instagram) image.

I admit it seems a little odd (which would then be right for Ghostbusters) to have helicopter blades attached to a human figure. That’s part of what they’re already known for, having radio controlled DC Comics hero and villain figures. With Ghostbusters the only in movie universe figure that makes literal sense is Slimer.

We don’t know yet, hopefully they’ll be making an RC ECTO-1. They probably can’t with my other idea, the perfect licensed RC helicopter would be the ECTO-2 from The Real Ghostbusters.

The images World Tech Toys used at NYTF for the “planning” stage appear to be from their Matty Collector collection. I wasn’t the first to make that instant impression.

What do you think, would you buy an RC Ghostbuster and/or Slimer?

The Miami Heat vs The San Antonio Spurs RC Helicopters

Written By:

Have you ever wondered what news anchors spend their time doing off camera? If you have, I don’t have an answer for you. But one thing I do know is that they don’t practice flying RC helicopters before they fly them on air.

“If you believe the Miami Heat can still fly even higher, we have the toy for you.

Remote controlled Miami Heat helicopters can now be at your command. But the good people at hobbytron.com say there are also helicopters from the NBA’s many lesser basketball teams.”

Check out the two videos here. One showcases the newscasters hilarious lack of skill at flying these RC helicopters and the second video shows how stable and easy to fly they really are.
