Do You Suck at Airsoft? Not With This!!!

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Have you ever been playing Airsoft and just felt a little out-gunned? Have the more experienced players picked on you a little more than you like? Well now with any of the new M249 Series; the M249-SAW, the M249-PARA, and the M249-MKII; you will never need to worry again about being the underdog in any of your Airsoft games.

That is what I felt like every time that I went out to play Airsoft with my friends. They always had much better guns than mine and I never really stood a chance. HobbyTron.com got this gun in and I felt as though my stars had changed. This gun holds 2500 Airsoft BBs! Let me say that again, this gun holds 2500 BBs! That was all that I needed to hear, I bought one straight away.
The last Saturday we had an Airsoft game, and it was awesome. When I came in carrying the M249-PARA Airsoft Gun, everyone noticed. We were playing steal the flag and no one even came close to our flag. Our team won every single game. I made sure to bunker down behind the flag a ways away and they buried me with boards and leaves. We left someone back there with me to make sure that people didn’t sneak up on me. It was a pretty good set up.
Later on in the afternoon I tried running around with it, but since I am not very good I got hit a lot, it didn’t really help me. I actually traded it with my friend for one of his guns for a couple games. He really liked the M249-PARA Airsoft Gun. He carried it around and was always laying down fire and hitting people. He actually wanted to buy mine from me right then and there for $45 more than I paid, so of course I sold it to him, and then went to HobbyTron.com and bought another one.
Anyone who needs a helping hand, an ace in the hole, a sure fire way to destroy your enemies, this is the Airsoft gun for you, the M249-PARA from HobbyTron.com.

The Surprising G&G Scar

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Here is a quick review of the G&G Scar-L Airsoft Gun.

First off, I would like to say that I have a lot of hands on with the Classic Army Scar-L Airsoft Gun and a lot of my comparisons will be based off of that knowledge.

Comes with:
Scar Bipod.
450 Round High-Cap magazine.

Initial Impression: I was slightly stunned. I noticed first off how lightweight the G&G Scar-L is compared to the CA version. Almost 1/3rd lighter or more in my estimations. Also the AEG seemed very sleek and solid as a rock. The charging lever has a weaker spring behind it, so pulling the bolt back takes no effort at all. This could be a good thing to some, a bad thing to others.

Pulling the Bolt back reveals the hop up assembly, newly designed with a clear hop up unit, you can see the new cold weather hop up bucking inside the assembly. This can be very helpful when troubleshooting Air-Seal issues IMO. The hop up adjustment was a little stiff and hard to access with your fingers, so a little adjustment tool comes with the package, which is nice if you don’t lose it.

The battery compartment:

This is a First for me, as you can see the battery assembly is completely detachable from the stock. The base of the stock has 2 solid terminals which stay in contact with the battery compartment. This I think is to allow easy adjustment of the stock without dealing with crumpled stock wiring. The disassembly is a bit of a chore, but no harder than the CA version I have worked with.

Internal Components: I didn’t have a chance to fully disassemble this AEG; I did have a chance to take a look at the wiring harness when I was changing the battery. I have not seen such good quality wiring in any AEG I have handled stock. The previous G&G AEGs of this price range are usually loaded with high quality internal components. Stock gear set that blows Mauri away IMO, 7-8mm Bearing bushings, Bearing spring guide and piston head, 6.04mm tight bore barrel all stock.

Performance: I went ahead and put in a G&P 9.6v Mini battery used Fidragon .20g BBs and a chronographer. This sucker shoots 390 FPS out of the box without hop up adjustments!

Conclusion:

Bad stuff: Hop up is hard to get to if you need to make adjustments in the field. Battery compartment is a bit of a chore.

Good Stuff: Built like a rock. The Magnesium Body gives strength at 1/3rd the weight of the CA counterpart. 390 FPS stock is an awesome feature because most other Scars require costly upgrades to reach 400 FPS.

Overall: Great AEG. Innovative designs and unbeatable quality. If you’re looking for a SCAR you’d kick yourself for not getting this one.

Having Fun on the Battlefield

Friday, January 25th, 2008

We were privileged late last year with the opportunity to have a film crew come to our Airsoft game. At Your Leisure, an increasingly popular TV show focused on outdoor family recreation came to do a piece on the growing Airsoft phenomenon. The weather was a little chilly, but the game was fun and it lasted upwards of 6 hours!
We have a lot of raw footage posted on YouTube.com from an amateur camera man who was in attendance. In these videos you can see that there were close to 30 people and that everyone got into the action. Most of that footage was of a game of Capture the Flag.
This new video from At Your Leisure posted on their website and on Google Video showcase how fun and how realistic these simulated war games can be when playing Airsoft. This piece was aired on January 19th on ABC and on January 26th on the CW.
When playing Airsoft, safety was and should always be a huge concern. We use protective eye gear, layered clothing, Airsoft guns within a certain power range, lots of rules for the players as well as for situations, like when civilians enter the course. Airsoft is a fun sport that any one of any budget can take part in whether alone doing some target practice or with a group of friends playing simulated war games on a Saturday afternoon.
As usual, HobbyTron.com sponsored this event and supplied all of the new comers with Airsoft guns, goggles, and ammunition. There were no injuries, except for pride maybe for the losing teams.
